Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Woodridge Public Library is part of an area-wide system (Metropolitan Library System) as well as part of a state-wide (ILLINET) library network. All members of these networks and systems are committed to sharing resources through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Additional information about ILL may be obtained by telephone (630-964-7899), fax (630-968-4126), and e-mail (askus@woodridgelibrary.org).

  • Woodridge Public Library cardholders can access SWAN, the library's Internet-based online catalog, at home or at work and directly request materials from the catalog.  Patrons will be notified when their items arrive at the library. Information on how to use the catalog is available at the Reference Desk.

  • All ILL borrowers must have a valid Woodridge Public Library card.

  • The ILL process usually takes 4-5 working days for materials coming from within our own system, depending on availability. The library cannot guarantee how quickly materials may arrive. Materials that are being borrowed from outside Illinois take longer to arrive. It is not unusual for materials to take several weeks when coming from other states.

  • Any format may be requested, but audiovisual materials are more difficult to get, especially from out-of-state.

  • Newly published materials may be difficult to borrow from other libraries. The library often purchases these materials for the collection.

  • Photocopies of periodical articles may also be obtained from other libraries, although many periodicals are now available full-text on one of the library's online databases.

  • There is no charge to borrow materials from within the Metropolitan Library System or from within Illinois, but there is a $1.50 charge to have items brought in from outside Illinois. This fee represents only a portion of the actual charge to the library.
