Computers

Computers for patron use in the Children’s Department require a Woodridge Library card, and are for use by children through 8th grade. Parents accompanied by children may also use the computers in the Children’s Department, provided they have a Woodridge library card and have signed the Internet agreement. Children 3rd grade and older must have their own Woodridge library card, and sign an Internet agreement in order to use these computers. Children under 3rd grade must have a parent seated with them when they use a computer. When all computers are occupied, a waiting list will be maintained for the next available computer. Signup for computers is on a first come basis, there is no advanced registration for computer use.

OPACs - These three computers are for searching the SWAN online catalog only. These computers are available to all patrons and do not require signing an agreement or signing up to use. Classes on how to search the online catalog are offered. Call the Children’s Reference Desk at (630) 964-7899 or check the computer class schedule for dates and times. Classes are for 4th - 6th graders and their parents.

Internet/Databases - These three computers allow patrons to use the Internet, access the library’s online databases, and do word processing. These computers do not have filters. The Internet defaults to the Yahooligans screen, which is a children’s search engine. Patrons may navigate to other search engines or sites of their choosing. A Woodridge library card and signed Internet agreement are required to use these computers. Signup is also required, and patrons are allowed a one hour block of time for use. Call the Children’s Reference Desk at (630) 964-7899 or check the computer class schedule for classes on e-mail, and searching the Internet. Classes are for 4th - 6th graders and their parents.

Word Processing - These two computers are not connected to the Internet, but allow patrons to create documents in word processing. The computers support Word, WordPerfect, and AppleWorks, which are programs used in the District 68 schools. Users must sign an agreement, and signup for a one hour block of time.
