The exhibit is available for viewing during normal Library hours.

Ever since high school, photography was part of Gene‘s life. At first, photography was a pastime and hobby that brightened the prosaic day to day life of a chemical engineer. With time, the hobby grew into a serious endeavor. The artist was fascinated by the ability to emphasize details through photography: the play of light on a flower petals, the graciousness of a plant, and a ripple of colors in a bird‘s feathers. Through these accents she expressed the main idea of the art piece. Interest in macro photography led Gene into a world full of new questions. The artist studied at New York Institute of Photography, exploring professional literature and associating with well known authorities in the field. Gene, time and again, practices photography and experiments with various capabilities of photo technology in search of perfect lighting.

Her family encouraged her to turn a photograph into a card and suggested she create a series of cards that at once gained in popularity. Gene created a fine art and greeting card company called Field Prints which makes a number of Fine Art products and sells them on fieldprints.com. One of the company’s best selling products are hand crafted note cards which have been successfully selling at art boutiques, gift shops, book stores, as well as selected Walgreens and Jewel-Osco locations.

Gene Mark photography has also been used by Kane Boss Productions during the filming of “Boss”, a STARZ Original TV series starring Kelsey Grammer. Gene was awarded 2nd place at the 2011 Love of Art Show. She is a member of the Lemont Artists Guild.

For further information on upcoming exhibitions call the Adult/Young Adult Department Reference Desk at 630-487-2577, or email askus@woodridgelibrary.org

Pictured: Sunset by Gene Mark

Art Gallery Showing - March - Dan Gordey: Mixed Media

During the month of March the Woodridge Public Library will be displaying the works of Dan Gordey, mixed media. The exhibit is available for viewing during normal Library hours.

Dan has been a Woodridge resident for 18 years. He has worked as a graphic artist for most of that time. “I began to pursue a career in architecture and worked as a draftsman but found it to be a bit too technical. I changed directions and received a degree in illustration from what is now, The Illinois Institute of Art.”

While at the Institute he studied figure drawing and painting. He continued to build on his education by studying the techniques of various artists. “The
ones that influence me in particular are Norman Rockwell, Frank Frazetta, Alex Ross, Stephen Holland, and Merv Corning.”

After trying a number of mediums he found his preference working in oil and watercolor. “Drawing has always been something I’ve enjoyed, particularly people and portraits. Growing up, sports were also a big part of my childhood. I’ve always had an appreciation for athletes who perform at a level that raises them above everyone else. When it comes to my artwork, I’ve combined two of the pastimes I enjoy the most, sports and painting.”

There will be a Meet the Artist Reception on Friday, March 2 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.

For further information on upcoming exhibitions call the Adult/Young Adult Department Reference Desk at 630-487-2577, or email askus@woodridgelibrary.org

Pictured: Urlacher by Dan Gordey

Book Discussions

Join us to enjoy a wide variety of books and lively discussions.
