E-Book & Audiobook Downloads
The Library has two collections of downloadable materials: eRead Illinois and Media On Demand. They both offer fiction and nonfiction e-books and audiobooks that can be read and listened to on computers and mobile devices. Media On Demand is the only collection that has e-books that can be read on e-ink (not Fire) Kindles.
A free app is needed to browse, checkout, and read or listen to e-books on mobile devices. Simply search for the app in the App Store or Google Play. eRead Illinois uses the Axis 360 app and Media On Demand uses the Libby app.
Up to five items can be checked out from each collection at a time, and up to five items placed on hold. Items can be checked out for up to 3 weeks and do not need to be returned. At the end of the loan period, they will automatically be checked back in. There are no fines or grace periods. E-books can be renewed if no one else is waiting for them.
