Mariachi Matters is an after school music education program for youth that teaches basic music fundamentals and Mariachi ensemble performance. It first begun in September of 2011, with the help of Mariachi veteran, Romeoville resident and current artistic director, Juan Cervantes, whose goal and dream was to see the heritage of Mariachi passed on to the children and youth of his community. The program aims to positively influence children/youth through the arts, steering them away from negative influences in the community, such as gangs & drugs, and to engage parents in the process.
