On April 15, we had a dance performance that was quite beautiful. 14 classical Indian dance students from Naperville's Bharatam Academy shared ancient stories through dance - using precise hand movements, facial expressions, dramatic poses and stamping movements.
The girls have each been dancing for 3 to 8 years and the dances they shared at the Woodridge Public Library took them over a year to learn and perfect. They said it took two hours to get ready for Sunday's performance, putting on vibrant make-up that allows their facial expressions to be seen well from a distance and wearing costumes made with yards of fabric and pleating.
The patrons enjoyed the performance and the question and answer session with the Academy teacher who explained some of the symbolism and background.
