Over 200 Monarch butterflies "visited" the Woodridge Public Library to the delight of more than 1,100 local butterfly fans! Salt Creek Butterfly Farm filled a large tent with butterflies just outside the library where fans observed the orange and black butterflies and gently offered them a sweet drink.
Attendees also enjoyed learning about the butterfly life cycle through real-life examples of caterpillars and even a chrysalis. More fun was had inside the library with a scavenger hunt, crafts and face painting.
Our thanks to everyone who stopped by and helped create magical Monarch moments.
Photo: Visitors held feeding sticks (cotton swabs dipped in Gatorade) out to the butterflies' feet, and after tasting the sweetness--did you know butterflies could taste with their feet?--the butterflies drank from the feeding sticks, allowing for up-close study, and some great pictures.
