What is the Student Library Card program?
Woodridge Public Library and Woodridge 68 are working together to get public library cards issued or renewed for Woodridge 68 students. During School Registration, parents/guardians may grant permission for the library and school district to work together and share information to enroll a student in the program. If permission is granted, students can receive a library card with all the benefits of a traditional library card, plus the great advantage of the card always being available to the student at school, at no cost to families or Woodridge 68.
Why are the Woodridge Public Library and Woodridge 68 doing this?
Library cards are a great educational tool for everyone! This program is an easy and streamlined way to get a card for your child. No sign-up is required at the library. Once a student receives their library card, they can use it immediately to access thousands of physical and digital books, magazines, and a wide range of online databases and programs that they can use during the school day in their classrooms.
What happens when I sign my child up for a card in this program?
Your child will obtain or renew a free Woodridge Public Library card and access the library’s online resources through the school district. You agree that you are responsible for the use of your minor’s card. You choose whether or not to allow your child to use the card for physical or digital checkouts. Your child receives a physical card from the library and will be issued a second virtual library card number that includes their Woodridge 68 ID number. The physical card or virtual number can be used to check out digital or print materials. See Woodridge Public Library’s website for more about library card and borrowing policies.
What if my child already has a Woodridge Public Library card?
If your student already has a physical library card, the Woodridge Public Library will update their record and add a second virtual library card number that features their Woodridge 68 ID number.
Why do some students have two library card numbers?
We will add a virtual library card number based on a student’s ID number to your student’s Woodridge Public Library account that will be easy to remember and use in the classroom. This number will not expire during your child’s time at Woodridge 68 and can never be lost. If your child’s physical library card is ever lost, just stop by the library for a free replacement. With our two-library-card-number system, your child’s access to library materials will not be interrupted. You can see and manage all checkouts—with either card number—using My Account at woodridgelibrary.org.
What if we live in an unincorporated area?
Great news! Due to recent changes in Illinois law and an Intergovernmental Agreement between Woodridge 68 and the Woodridge Public Library, your child can receive a Woodridge Public Library card free of charge. This card will be identical to any other Woodridge Public Library card.
What if we are residents of another town? Not Woodridge?
Woodridge Public Library is working with neighboring libraries to provide students from outside of Woodridge with a card from their local library. Instead of receiving a Woodridge Public Library card, some students may receive a card from their home library; in other cases, guardians will be given information on the best way to obtain a free card for their child. Cards from other libraries may have a few differences, but your child should receive access to an expanded set of resources.
